Erin Sandsmark will be exhibiting new work in Gallery 148 on MCAD's campus from April 7th-April 19th. The opening reception will take place on Friday, April 7th from 6pm-9pm.
'A Second Skin' is a collection of works that center around the artist's own body. These paintings take specific moments of interaction with the naked body, and ask the viewer to interact with the flesh presented to them in each work. Erin is focused on personal power, and how to use one's body and intellect to garner that power. Fat bodies, in these paintings, are brought into a public space, confronting a body that has been so open for judgement and disgust. The canvas of each painting hangs loosly with bends and folds, swaying and behaving like a skin all on its own.
