MCAD Bee Club is open to all students, faculty and staff. In 2014, two hives were added to the rooftop, maintained and monitored by MCAD staff and partners from the University of Minnesota Bee Squad's Hive to Bottle Program. Learn more about them here.
Since then, Bee Club's goal is to promote awareness about Colony Collapse Disorder and a greater understanding of human dependence on healthy pollinator communities. Through on-campus honey tastings, workshops, and even valentines, MCAD Printshop and Bee Club work together to show the love for a creature of many disciplines. Learn more about bees and Bee Club below, or e-mail email@example.com to get involved!
Summer 2016 Update:
The MCAD Bees survived the winter! The two colonies of bees needed to be divided into two more colonies which was great news! Since we needed space to put two new colonies, and the roof at MCAD could not hold them, the University of Minnesota Bee Squad offered to let us have our new hives at the Bee Vets Apiary at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport. MCAD MFA student, Joel Terry, decorated the hives with a spray painted design that he created especially for the hives. Having the hives decorated helps the bees determine which hive they need to return to.
