How do I Become a Tutor or a Mentor?

The peer positions within the Learning Center are all work study positions. When a mentor or tutor position becomes open, the position will be posted on the MCAD Career Services Job and Opportunities Site

To Apply:

The Learning Center will send out a call for applications, typically toward the end of each semester, when there is a need for new tutors or mentors. 

In addition to meeting the qualifications outlined below, all tutors and mentors must submit:

  • Completed application form
  • Reference informaiotn for at least one MCAD faculty, staff, or administrator
  • Students applying for a writing tutor position must also submit a 2-3 page sample of writing completed while at MCAD. 

 

Tutor Qualifications

  • Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have earned an "A" in course(s) specific to tutoring discipline (reading and writing, media, etc.)
  • Be in good academic and social standing
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a genuine desire to help their peers succeed
  • Be self-motivated with a positive attitude
  • Display a willingness to learn about different cultures, learning styles, and abilities

Peer Mentor Position Qualifications 

  • Be a rising sophomore, junior or senior
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Be in good academic and social standing
  • Be on campus for the entire academic year, excluding holiday breaks
  • Be willing to learn and share information about the MCAD community, student life, and campus resources
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have a genuine desire to help their peers succeed
  • Demonstrate leadership potential
  • Be self-motivated with a positive attitude
  • Display a willingness to learn about different cultures, learning styles, and abilities
