Current MCAD degree students, faculty, and staff; continuing studies faculty; alumni, continuing studies or auditing students who pay an access fee; and permanent MIA and CTC staff may borrow items from the library.

WHO MAY USE THE MCAD LIBRARY?
The library is for the MCAD community. MCAD students, faculty, and staff may check out items with an official MCAD ID. MCAD Alumni, MIA/CTC staff, and fellows obtain an MCAD library card at the circulation desk (fees may apply). Library staff will establish patron accounts and issue patron barcodes first time electronic circulation users. Non-affiliated persons may use materials in the library. They may not check items out.

HOW DO I CHECK OUT LIBRARY MATERIALS?
Bring the materials you want to the Circulation desk. Present your barcoded MCAD ID or MCAD library card at each checkout. Library staff will scan your card and the items you wish to checkout; these items will be applied to your patron account. Slides are checked out in the Slide Library by filling out a circulation sheet with each slide identified. Give the circulation sheet and the slides you want to a Slide Library staff person to check. You are responsible for all items checked out in your name.

WHERE DO I RETURN LIBRARY MATERIALS?
There is a book return in the hallway to the left of the library door where materials may be returned when the library is closed. When the library is open bring items to the Circulation desk. AV items, including videos, records. cassette tapes and CDs should be returned to the Circulation desk if possible. Slides should be taken into the Slide Library and placed in the return box.

WHAT IF I CANNOT FIND WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR?
If a book is listed in the catalog and you do not find it on the shelf, bring the call number to the Circulation desk. We will help you search for it. If the book is out, you may put a hold on it and you will be notified when it is returned. If it is not checked out you may fill out a search slip, and we will hunt for the book. If the library does not own the item, ask the Reference Librarian for assistance. It is possible to check the online catalogs of other libraries in the area. The Library offers Interlibrary Loan Service to MCAD students, faculty and staff.

WHAT IF I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO LOOK FOR OR WHERE TO FIND IT?
Many topics require library expertise to locate anything on them. Always ask for help if you need to formulate a search strategy or if you are not finding information. The Reference Librarian and the Circulation staff are always here to assist you.

WHO CAN USE THE COMPUTERS?
There are Macintosh computers available for MCAD students, faculty, and staff. Three flatbed scanners are also available. Alumni may use the computers if their yearly alumni fee is paid. A limited number of software programs are available to alumni users.
