2017 Important End of the Semester and Winter Break Info

3D Shop

The 3D shop will close for the semester on December 15th at 6:00 p.m. Please make sure you return all tools and remove all projects and materials from all shop spaces. Anything left will be recycled or thrown away. The shop will open for Spring semester on January 16th at 8:00 a.m. Please see Don Myhre (3D Shop Director) if you have any questions. Have a great break!

Academic Services

Academic Services will be open regular office hours (8:00 a.m.–4:00p.m. M-F) over winter break, but will be closed Dec 22–Jan 1 for the Holidays. We will reopen on Tuesday, January 2nd.

Studio Cleanout!
All students who are graduating in December, studying abroad Spring semester, are reducing to part time status or are withdrawing for Spring semester MUST clean out current studio spaces and locker areas by Monday, December 18th at noon. This includes all lockers, cubbies, and common areas. Please turn in any keys checked out from Academic Services. If you are returning to school full time next semester, you may keep your studio space for the full academic year, and will retain uninterrupted studio access over the winter break. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Allison Vallant ASAP!

If you are returning next semester you can checkout and renew books over winter break starting Wednesday, 12/6. So any book with a 4 week loan period checked out or renewed starting Wednesday, 12/6 will be due the first day of class, January 16, 2018.

Main and Morrison Buildings

The Main and Morrison buildings will be locked to the public beginning Thursday evening December 21 at 8:00 p.m. and reopen Tuesday morning January 2 at 7:00 a.m. All entrances to academic buildings will remain locked during this time frame.

Any enrolled student, full or part time staff and faculty may enter the south or east doors of Main as long as they present their MCAD to the card access reader, and then swipe again in at the Public Safety desk to 'electronically sign-in'.

Media Center

The Media Center window will close at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15.

There are no circulations or studio access after this time until the window reopens at 8:30am on Tuesday, January 16.

Equipment checkout policies over winter break:

Degree-seeking students enrolled for spring semester:

  • All reservations by Personal Proposal only. Proposals will be accepted until noon on Wednesday, December 13. The return date for proposals over break is Tuesday, January 16 at a time of your choosing.
  • While most proposals will be approved, it’s the Media Center's discretion to deny any proposal if the requested items need remain on-hand over break to facilitate necessary maintenance or repairs.
  • All facilities/studios/rooms are closed over break.

Faculty contracted for spring classes and Staff:
Same policies as above plus:

  • All reservations by Personal Proposal only. Priority access to in-demand kits is first given to students. After that, priority will be given to equipment designated for the classes you are scheduled to teach in spring semester. All other requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

No over-break access allowed:
Non-Student T.A.s, Fellows, Continuing Education students and faculty

Printshop/Paper Studios

The last day that the Printshop and Paper Studios will be open is Friday, December 15 until 9:00 p.m.Please remove all prints and paper, screens, clean out lockers and flat files or they will be cleaned out and recycled or donated. We will be closed from December 16 through January 15, 2016 for routine maintenance, cleaning, etc. There is no student, staff, or faculty access over the Winter Break.

December Grads: your MCAD Logins and PaperCut accounts will expire after December 21st. Pay attention to your PaperCut account balance and use it up before then. Remember you can purchase $2.50 and $5 PaperCut cards in the Art Cellar.

MCAD Student Counseling and Wellness

The MCAD Student Counseling and Wellness Office will be closed for winter break and will re-open on January 16, 2018. Feel free to send an email and we will respond when we return. If you have questions of if you need more immediate assistance you may contact the MCAD Student Affairs Office, MCAD Public Safety, or check the MCAD Intranet under Student Counseling and Wellness.

If you have an emergency, please contact MCAD Public Safety, call 911, or call the Crisis Connection at 612-379-6363.

Computer Labs

The main computer labs (330 and 331) will close for the semester on Friday, December 15, 2017.

The computer labs will reopen on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 for spring session.

Be sure to remove all personal and class files from the lab and library workstations before they close. We will be reformatting all hard drives and we don't want you to lose any data!!!

Help Desk and Technology Support (Room 319)

Regular fall semester hours will end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017.

The Help Desk will be open between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on the following dates -- 12/18-12/21, 1/2-1/12 Monday - Friday.

Regular spring session hours will resume on Tuesday, January 16 2018, 8:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. weekdays.

MCAD Login, Email, and Equipment (Faculty):

Be sure to remove all personal and class files from shared faculty workstations. We will be reformatting all hard drives and we don't want you to lose any data!!!

Adjunct faculty using school-owned loaner laptops will need to return them to the Help Desk (319) by noon on Wednesday, December 20th, 2017.

Current adjunct faculty that are teaching in the degree program during the spring session will continue to have uninterrupted access to their MCAD login.

Current adjunct faculty that are not scheduled to teach in the spring will have their MCAD login disabled one week before the start of spring session.

Just a reminder that all adjunct Gmail accounts will remain active for one year after their most recent contract end date.

MCAD Login and Email (Students):

MCAD Login (servers and labs) for returning students will remain active over the winter break.

MCAD Login (servers and labs) for Fall 2017 grads will be disabled January 14th, 2018.

Email accounts for Fall 2017 grads will remain active until, May 15th, 2018.

MCAD PaperCut Account:

MCAD PaperCut accounts for Fall 2017 grads will be disabled, check in with the service bureau for remaining balance information and print access details.

Remaining PaperCut balances cannot be dispersed and will expire when accounts are deactivated.

Student Storage Directories / Student Web Sites: network storage and student websites for Fall 2017 grads will be removed January 14th, 2018.

Class server: folders will be reset at 12:00 noon on January 8th, 2018.

Please make sure to backup any important fall class work before that time. spring folder access will be available on January 8th, 2018.

Coursework server (faculty only):

Two weeks after the start of Spring Semester 2018 folders for Fall 2017 will be set to read-only.
