The August 1 Tuition Deadline: What You Need to Know

Dear Art Students,

Don't get caught watching the paint dry! It could cost you!

Here's here's your cheat sheet for avoiding the $250 late payment penalty. Detailed instructions are included, below.

1. Even if you believe, 'you've got it covered', check your tuition balance now, on MAXPay!

2. If you're enrolled in either the B.FA./B.S., MFA, or Graphic Design Post-Baccalaureate programs (non, online programs), and you have your own health insurance for the 2018-19 academic year, you must complete the online waiver form, even if you've waived in prior years.

3. If you received a financial aid award, make sure that you have completed all of the necessary steps to ensure that your financial aid will be disbursed! This may include:
    * Accepting your awards online
    * Completing your Direct Loan Entrance Counseling or signing your Master Promissory Note
    * Emailing the Financial Aid Office a 'Thank You' note for a scholarship or grant
    * Finalizing documents for a private loan
    * Obtaining a cosigner
    * If you are one of the many students and families who were randomly selected for verification, submitting all requested documentation to the Financial Aid Office

4. Enroll in the 5 month payment plan (MAXPlan). The cost to enroll is $30 and your first payment is due upon enrollment. You might ask, why pay before August 1?
    * When you submit your payment plan payment now, you are actually paying your August 1st tuition payment. That means, your next payment won't be due until September 1st!
    * That gives you plenty of time to chip away at your September 1st payment and so on, and so on, and you get the drift.
    * Did you know that enrolling in the payment plan after August 1st means that the payment plan will only be a 4-month payment plan? That means your monthly payments will be much higher than the five month plan and you'll have to include the $250 late payment charge!

So, it actually pays to, pay now!

All unpaid tuition balances after August 1, 2018 will be assessed the $250 Late Tuition Payment charge.

With that in mind, please read the following information completely and carefully.

Step 1 - Login to MAXPay to View Your Tuition Balance
Parents, skip to Step 3.

Students, login to your myMCAD Student Dashboard and click, 'Launch MAXPay' from the Student Accounts page to view your current tuition balance. This link cannot be used for parent access.

Step 2. If you have not already done so, please invite parents, third party payers, to access your student account well in advance of theAugust 1st tuition deadline! It can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to authorize parent or 3rd party access, so do not delay.
Activation requests are processed by the MCAD Records Office, M-F during normal business hours.

Complete the FERPA Form from your myMCAD Student Dashboard. Enter parent/3rd party email addresses carefully and select the information you would like to share. HINT: be sure to grant access to view Financial Information if they will be helping you pay your tuition.

Step 3 - Parents, Login to your myMCAD Parent Dashboard
Students, skip to Step 4.

For parents who have activated their personal accounts, login to the parent myMCAD dashboard and click on your student's name, located beneath their photo. Click, 'Launch MAX - View and Pay Tuition' , under, 'Tools and Information'.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS: If you are receiving this email but you have not yet received account activation instructions from the MCAD Records Office, email Records@mcad.edu immediately. Also, check your spam folder for an email from Records@mcad.edu.

Step 4 - Check your Balance & Review Your Charges and Credits Carefully
From MAXPay's Main Page, click 'View Your Account' located next to your 'Balance Due', to view a detailed listing of tuition and fee transactions, payments, and completed financial aid for the fall semester (see below).

Make sure tuition charges, housing charges, financial aid, health insurance waivers, etc. are accurately reflected in your account balance.

Steps 5 thru 8: Taking Care of Business
First, WAIVE THE Annual MCAD Health Insurance!!!

Who? Students enrolled in the BFA/BS, MFA, and Graphic Design Certificate programs

What? Students enrolled in the above programs are charged annually for school sponsored health insurance and must complete the online waiver form each year if they have private health insurance and wish to opt out of purchasing the 2018-19 MCAD healthcare plan.

When? The MCAD insurance waiver must be renewed ANNUALLY! And by 'renewed Annually' we mean, complete the online waiver form, every Fall semester regardless of whether you have completed the form in a prior year, term, or both.

What else? Students enrolled in online-only programs are not eligible to purchase MCAD sponsored health insurance and do not need to submit an insurance waiver.

Step 6 - Review Financial Aid and Complete All Necessary Steps to Receive Your Full Award
For most students, this is the most important and also, most confusing step.

If you completed your annual FAFSA, received a financial aid award letter from the Financial Aid Office and are expecting financial aid that is not reflected in your student account balance, please take a moment to make sure you have: 1. Accepted your award and 2. submitted all required documents and completed all necessary steps to ensure your financial aid will disburse, such as completing Loan Entrance Loan Counseling, signing your Master Promissory Note(s), or submitted 'Thank You' notes for certain scholarship awards. Check your MCAD email for communications from the Financial Aid Office for more information.

Students can access their financial aid information here.

Parents with access may view their student's financial aid status from the 'Tools and Information' menu, located on the Student Info page of their myMCAD Parent Dashboard.

Step 7 - Need More Time to Pay? Enroll in the Fall 2018 MAXPlan
If you would like to enroll in the fall 2018 payment plan (MAXPlan), you can access the enrollment link from the MAXPay main page, located under 'MAXPlan Monthly Installment Agreements'.

The administrative cost to enroll is $30 per semester and is paid with your first monthly installment. Your final tuition balance will be divided into 5, equal monthly installments. The first installment, plus $30 admin fee is due on or before August 1, 2018 and must be paid when you activate your enrollment. Subsequent installments are due on the first of each month, through December 2018. So, if you activate your MAXPlan and submit your first monthly installment on June 20th, your next payment will not be due until September 1, 2018.

Note: Students may still enroll in the MAXPlan after August 1, 2018. However, the $250 late payment charge will be added to the tuition balance and the MAXPlan will be reduced to 4 monthly installments which means your monthly payments will be significantly higher than enrolling before August 1st.

We are often asked why we only offer a 5 month payment plan. Keep in mind that once you submit your first monthly installment and enroll in the MAXPlan, you always have the option to make payments toward future monthly installments from the 'Payments & Deposits' menu option in MAXPay. So, if you submit your August 1st payment in June, you can pay September's installment in July, October's installment in August, and so forth, until your plan is paid in full on or before the final December 1st installment. In this scenario, the 5 month payment plan can be completed over 7 months instead of 5.
