This spring semester there are three opportunities to hear from Walker Art Center curators. Anyone in the MCAD community is welcome to join in on these informal conversations that will be moderated by members of the Visiting Artists Committee.
First up is Emmet Byrne.
In his dual roles as Design Director and Associate Curator of Design at the Walker Art Center, Emmet provides creative leadership and strategic direction for the Walker’s brand identity in all areas of visual communication, including publications, exhibition graphics, institutional campaigns, marketing materials, wayfinding, and web design, while overseeing its publishing program and National Design Award winning design studio. As a designer, Byrne is interested in the intersection of oblique strategies and online publishing, as evidenced by the Walker's ground-breaking publication-style web redesign in 2011, and unique projects such as Intangibles—a collection of artist- and designer-created products with no physical form.
Bryne is also responsible for curating the annual Insights Design Lecture Series and leading the Walker's eclectic design blog The Gradient. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University’s College of Design and served as adjunct faculty at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design from 2004–2008.
