2019 Important End of the Semester and Winter Break Info

3D Shop

The 3D shop will close for the semester on December 13th at 6:00 p.m. Please make sure you return all tools and remove all projects and materials from all shop spaces. Anything left will be recycled or thrown away. The shop will open for Spring semester 2020 on January 21st at 8:00 a.m. Please see Don Myhre (3D shop director) if you have any questions.

Academic Services

Academic Services will be open regular office hours (8:00 a.m.–4:00p.m. Mon–Fri) over winter break, but will be closed Dec 23–Jan 1 for the Holidays. We will reopen on Thursday, January 2nd.

Studio Cleanout!

All students who are graduating in December, studying abroad Spring semester, are reducing to part time status or are withdrawing for Spring semester MUST clean out current studio spaces and locker areas by Monday, December 18 at noon. This includes all lockers, cubbies, and common areas. Please turn in any keys checked out from Academic Services. If you are returning to school full time next semester, you may keep your studio space for the full academic year, and will retain uninterrupted studio access over the winter break. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please make arrangements with Donna Meyer ASAP!

Cafeteria

The Cafeteria will be closed for Winter Break from 12-16-2019 thru 01-20-2020.

We will be open Normal Hours beginning Tuesday, 01-21-2020.


Help Desk

This is your regularly scheduled update of important dates regarding the end of the semester and technology resources at MCAD. If you're a student, soon to be grad, staff, or faculty member please take the time to read this to find out if anything here will impact you!

Computer Labs:

The main computer labs (330 and 331) will close for the semester on Friday, December 13th, 2019.

Be sure to remove all personal and class files from the lab and library workstations before they close. There is a chance we will be reformatting all hard drives and we don't want you to lose any data!

The computer labs will reopen on Tuesday, January 21nd, 2020 for Spring semester and will remain open until the close of the Spring semester.

Help Desk and Technology Support (Room 319):

Regular fall semester hours will end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019.

The Help Desk will be open Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on the following dates:
December 16-20
January 2-17

Regular spring semester hours will resume on Tuesday, January 21 2020, 8:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. weekdays.

MCAD Login and Email (Students):

MCAD Login (servers and labs) for returning students will remain active over the break.

MCAD Login (servers and labs) for Fall 2019 grads will be disabled 21 days from their date of graduation.

MCAD email accounts for Fall 2019 grads will remain active for one year after their date of graduation.

MCAD Login, Email, and Equipment (Faculty):

Be sure to remove or backup all personal and class files from shared faculty workstations before you leave for winter break.

Adjunct faculty using school-owned loaner laptops not teaching eligible classes in the spring semester will need to return them to the Help Desk (319) by noon on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019. Spring laptop eligible adjuncts will still need to stop in to the Help Desk before they leave for break to sign a laptop agreement renewal.

Current adjunct faculty that are teaching in the degree program during the Spring session will continue to have uninterrupted access to their MCAD login.

Current adjunct faculty that are NOT scheduled to teach in the Spring will have most services associated with their MCAD login disabled 21 days after the end of the current semester.

All adjunct @mcad.edu Gmail accounts will remain active for one year after their most recent contract end date.

MCAD PaperCut Account (Students & Faculty):

MCAD PaperCut accounts for all Fall students who are returning in the Spring will have continued access to their accounts and balances in the upcoming semester.

MCAD PaperCut accounts for Fall 2019 grads will be disabled 21 days from the date of graduation.

MCAD PaperCut accounts for adjunct faculty not teaching in the spring will be disabled 21 days after the end of the semester.

Remaining PaperCut balances cannot be dispersed and will expire when accounts are deactivated. Please contact tyler_page@mcad.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

Student Storage Directories / Student Web Sites:

studio.mcad.edu network storage and student websites for Fall 2019 grads will be removed 21 days after graduation.

Please be sure to backup any important work before that time.

Class server:

class.mcad.edu Fall semester folders will be reset one week before the beginning of the spring term.

class.mcad.edu Spring session folder access will be available one week before the beginning of the spring term.

Please make sure to backup any important class work before that time.

Coursework server (faculty only):

Two weeks after the start of Spring Semester 2020 the coursework.mcad.edu folders for Fall 2019 will be set to read-only.

Please be sure to back up any important fall work to this server before that time.

Main and Morrison Buildings

The Main and Morrison buildings will be locked to the public beginning Monday, December 23 at 8:00 p.m. and reopen Thursday, January 2 at 7:00 a.m. All entrances to academic buildings will remain locked during this time frame.

Any enrolled student, full or part time staff and faculty may enter the south or east doors of Main as long as they present their MCAD to the card access reader, and then swipe again in at the Public Safety desk to 'electronically sign-in'.


Media Center

The Media Center window will close at 7pm on Friday, December 13th.

There are no circulations or studio access after this time until the window reopens at8:30am on Tuesday, January 21st.

Equipment checkout policies over winter break are as follows:
Degree-seeking students enrolled for spring semester:
  • All reservations are by Personal Proposal only. Proposals will be accepted until noon on Thursday, Dec 12th.
  • While most proposals will be approved, it's at the Media Center's discretion to deny any proposal if the requested items need remain on-hand over break for necessary maintenance or repairs. We will do our best to work with you to find alternative options if possible.
  • Advanced items designated as "Tech Checkout only" are available by proposal for the periods when the Media Center Window is closed but Staff office hours are being held over breaks. These dates are 12/16/19 to 12/20/19 and again from 1/2/20 to 1/17/20. Tech Checkouts for the full duration of winter or summer break will not be approved. All Tech Checkout equipment must be returned to the Media Center before the first day of spring semester.
  • Black and Gray Studios (335, 345), analog darkrooms, and 329 Sound Studio, are all closed and not accessible over winter break beginning at 7pm on Dec 13th. They will reopen the first day of classes, 1/21/20.
Faculty contracted for spring classes and Staff:
  • All reservations by Personal Proposal only. Priority access to in-demand kits is first given to students. After that, priority will be given to equipment designated for the classes you are scheduled to teach in the spring semester. All other requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
No over-break access allowed:

Checkout:

Returning students can checkout and renew books over winter break.

Due dates for 4 week items will be the first day of classes, January 21.


Printshop and Paper Studios

The last day that the Printshop and Paper Studios will be open for fall semester, 2019, is Friday, December 13, at 9:00 p.m. This date is the deadline for all undergraduate, MFA students, faculty and staff to clean out their flat files, remove all prints and paper, remove screens, clean out lockers. Anything that has been brought into the PPB studios that is left behind will be recycled.

Please note: The Printshop and Paper Studio will be closed from December 14 through January 20, 2019 for studio clean up, maintenance, equipment repairs, etc. There is no student, staff, Jerome or McKnight Fellow or faculty access over the Winter Break.

Student Counseling and Wellness Office

The MCAD Student Counseling and Wellness Office will close on Friday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. We will be closed for the winter break.

We will reopen on the first day of spring semester which is January 22, 2019. If you have questions or need more immediate assistance, you may contact the MCAD Student Affairs Office, MCAD Public Safety, or check the MCAD Intranet under Student Counseling and Wellness.

If you have an emergency, please contact MCAD Public Safety, call 911, or go to a local emergency room (see intranet link to student counseling and wellness above).
