Dear MCAD Students, Staff, and Faculty,
As the holiday break is almost upon us, I know this time often includes gatherings with families and friends and travel. Given the rapid increase of active COVID-19 cases across the state of Minnesota and the nation as a whole, the COVID-19 virus remains a serious risk to us all. Medical experts agree that many people aged 18-35 could be the largest asymptomatic carriers of this virus.
Under the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), we are asking all students to get tested before Thanksgiving–whether you remain on campus, travel for the holidays, or plan on leaving and staying home. To make this testing as easy and accessible as possible, MCAD is partnering with the MDH to offer saliva-based testing options that are free to any faculty, staff, students, and household members. Every MCAD community member is urged to take advantage of this test even if symptom free.
MCAD has procured a supply of saliva-based test kits that you can pick up at MCAD, take home, and administer with a health practitioner monitoring the process over Zoom. You return the completed test to Public Safety who will then courier it to the lab where test results are made available within 48 hours.
Testing kits are anticipated to be available at the Public Safety Desk on Monday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m. These kits are time sensitive and must be returned by noon on Wednesday, November 18. Please remember to follow our social distancing guidelines when picking up or dropping off your test. Reserve kits for yourself and your roommates/household members here.
As the details of this testing option come together, more information will be provided to those who register. This information will include instructions on how to perform the test, submit for lab testing, and relay your results to MCAD.
This pandemic continues to take a toll on our ability to spend time with those who we care about. That said, I ask for your diligence and commitment to help stem the tide of the virus and keep our communities safe by getting tested and following MCAD’s Forward Together guidelines. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
All my best,
