Dear MCAD Students,
I want to thank those of you who attended last week’s Student Town Hall. It is always good to get together for conversation. For those of you who could not attend, this email is a follow-up to questions asked about COVID-19 safety and related communications.
Our COVID-19 response practices go above and beyond the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. Rather than waiting for a positive test result, when symptoms are reported we immediately start quarantine procedures, testing, and contact tracing. We investigate possible close contacts (roommates, staff, faculty, or students) and ask that those individuals enter interim quarantine until we know test results of the symptomatic individual. While we understand this protocol places a burden on those involved, we know that taking these early quarantine actions is in the best interest of the entire MCAD community.
Second, we use enhanced disinfection protocols throughout the day in our public spaces. Highly-used surfaces are disinfected at a minimum of three times a day. In the Cafe, when open, highly-used surfaces are cleaned every twenty minutes. These practices meet Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) recommendations.
Third, for our college to stay operational, it is up to each one of us to take personal responsibility for our own health and wellness, especially those of us with underlying conditions that make us more vulnerable. As the supportive MCAD community that we are, we need to be accountable and hold others accountable to:
- Wear a mask around others.
- Stay six feet apart.
- Take your temperature regularly.
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often.
- Stay home if you have a fever, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, notify your doctor, and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
And last, our priority in communication is to those people who may have been in close contact with a potential COVID-19 case. If you are one of them, you will be notified immediately and asked to quarantine until an investigation can take place to determine the extent of the exposure. If there is a positive COVID-19 case within our community, we will specifically notify potentially affected people and more broadly communicate on our real-time dashboard on the website.
Using the most sound medical advice from the CDC, MDH, and other health experts, we do our best to balance providing relevant information with urgency while maintaining privacy and calm. We’ve taken all of the best information available and gone beyond recommended protocols in order to act in the best interests of you and everyone around you.
