The Hive and Technology Support

Good Morning!

The Hive

The Hive dormitory, as many are aware, was a new facility added to campus over the summer.  As with any new facility, there has been a tremendous amount of effort put in to make it a welcoming, comfortable and functional living space for students.  One of our efforts was to improve upon the internet and related wireless technology that was in place in the building.  We have been in the process of installing directly connected fiber, which we were hoping would be installed before classes started - unfortunately this work was not complete before the start of class.  Currently, the connection from the Hive to Main campus is active, but is not running at full capacity.  Once this installation is complete, there will be a substantial improvement of communication from the Hive to the MCAD campus.  We currently estimate this work being completed on or around 9.15.

For those students at the Hive that are continuing to have troubles connecting to wifi - please contact us at the Helpdesk as soon as you are able so that we can address any lingering issues, and if warranted, we will work with you to schedule a visit to your dorm room for further testing/troubleshooting.

Technology Support

In efforts to help support our new and returning student community, we thought sending out an updated communication on a few technology related resources may assist those that may or may not be aware of what is available for technology information and support.

Helpdesk - Our Helpdesk is staffed during open hours, and accepts email submitted requests 24/7.  All electronically submitted requests are tracked in a system until resolution, with communication throughout the process.  Our Helpdesk team is happy to assist with any technical issue, questions or concerns - even if it isn't a technical question, they are glad to help point you in the right direction. Mon-Thurs 8:30 am to 7:00 pm and Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm

Wireless at MCAD - Defines the network types, supported devices and recommended settings for various personal devices used in the dorms.

Software Support - an extensive listing of instructions, how-to's and information related to the various forms of specialty software utilized across the campus.

Computer Care and BackUps - an overview of how to manage backups, storage, cleaning and related care activities to get the most out of your device.
