Starting on October 7th, Apple officially released the latest major update to its operating system, macOS 10.15 Catalina. As with all new full operating systems revisions from Apple, MCAD IT and the Help Desk STRONGLY DISCOURAGES rushing to upgrade to this new OS immediately.
The primary reason for this is that any new software has the potential to introduce bugs, complications, or incompatibilities with already established systems, and this is doubly true for major operating system releases. Currently, we have very little practical data about how this new version of macOS will work with our infrastructure, but there is at least one major issue that Catalina will introduce that has no immediate solution. Harmony 16, Storyboard Pro 6, and older versions of both will cease to function in macOS 10.15 Catalina, so for the subset of our users that work with these applications, it is vitally important that they do not upgrade to macOS 10.15. The makers of this software are aware of this issue, but they have yet to establish a firm timeline for resolution. For more information on this issue, please see the following article:
To reiterate, MCAD IT urges all of our users to wait to upgrade of macOS 10.15 Catalina. We will send an "all clear" message after thorough testing, and any major launch bugs are squelched. We have no set date for the completion of our testing, but we'll do our best to be expedient.
