PLEASE READ: If You Care About Your Files, Back Them Up

Hello MCAD Community,

If you haven't backed up your data recently, now is the time. Check out our updated article on Backing Up Your Data for an overview of backup methods and instructions to make the process easy and painless.

By now, you've probably heard many warnings about backing up your data. But what's the big deal? Well, when a piece of data is only saved on 1 device, if that device fails, that data is gone forever. This is especially important for those with newer laptops: the hard drive of a Touchbar MacBook Pro cannot be separated from the laptop's motherboard, so if any part of the laptop fails, your data will be irretrievable.

Some of your files might not matter to you, but others probably took many hours of your life to create. Here at the Help Desk, we regularly meet people who are reeling from the loss of crucial data. Avoid becoming one of them by saving ALL your important files in at least 2 locations!

If you're worried that backing up your data will be very time consuming, difficult, or expensive, we have good news for you - it doesn't have to be any of those things.

This updated article has the information you need, including:

  • How to choose and buy an external hard drive
  • How to automatically back up your computer without any manual work
  • How to restore your data from a backup
  • How to use "cloud-based" options if you don't have an external drive

...or stop by the Help Desk and we'll be happy to walk you through every step of the process.

Thanks,
Your friends at the MCAD Help Desk
