Dear MCAD Students,
As an urban college, we experience all things related to living in a big city- great culture, vibrant art scene, amazing food, and unfortunately crime. This summer has been particularly difficult for our city after the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent unrest.
Last night was another example of escalating tensions and crime in the downtown area. In response Minneapolis Mayor Frey established a curfew until 6:00 a.m. this morning and MN Governor Walz declared a city emergency and called in the National Guard to stop the looting and destruction.
While this news is unsettling, we want you to feel supported and safe around campus. As many of us (staff and faculty) are city dwellers ourselves, we use these common-sense reminders:
- Travel in pairs.
- Have a phone at all times.
- Be alert and aware of surroundings.
- Stay home under a curfew.
- Call MCAD Public Safety at (612)874-3555 if feeling unsafe.
- Call 911 for an emergency.
We encourage you to follow the City of Minneapolis for up-to-the minute news and announcements:
And, of course, if you have questions or concerns, please contact Student Affairs. We are here to help you!
Best to you all,
Title IX Coordinator
