Crime Alerts are posted in an effort to make the MCAD Community aware of any situation that poses a potential threat to the safety and well-being of those who live, work, study and visit the campus. By keeping you aware of crimes occurring in your community Campus Safety hopes to encourage you to become actively involved in crime prevention. Personal safety practices and knowledge are your best defense against crime. This is intended to promote safety on campus and comply, in part, with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1990.
REPORTED OFFENSE – AGGRAVATED ASSAULT - Off Campus
Campus Safety received a report at approximately 1:40 pm on Tuesday, January 17th, an individual reported to Mia Security that he was robbed at gunpoint at the intersection of 24th and Stevens. The victim indicated he was walking northbound on Stevens and as he got to the intersection two juvenile males jumped out of a silver SUV and demanded his possessions. He only had his phone which he surrendered. The suspects left eastbound on 24th in a silver (possibly Nissan) SUV.
MPD responded and took a report from the victim. Mia security has been able to confirm the incident on video replay and will share useful information with investigators. The phone was discarded along 24th Street and turned over to VE, who were able to return it to the victim.
- Males of unknown race/ethnicity, juvenile.
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS:
- Avoid isolated areas.
- If a stranger does approach, maintain a distance and be observant; if they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number.
- Stay alert - If you feel uneasy, leave the area. Go to a safe location and notify Campus Safety.
