DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS

If you believe you have a disability that is impacting your work life at MCAD, please complete the MCAD ADA REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION REQUEST FORM and return it to human_resources@mcad.edu. This will begin an interative and interactive process through which the goal is to find a reasonable accommodation for you. A qualified disabled employee may be entitled to reasonable accommodation if necessary to enable the employee to perform the essential functions of their job, and such reasonable accommodation can be provided without undue hardship to MCAD. Employees requiring reasonable accommodation should contact the Office of Human Resources. MCAD does not unlawfully discriminate against qualified persons with physical and mental impairments that substantially limit one or more major life activities, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

DISABILITIES AND COVID-19

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), employees with conditions that put them at a higher risk for severe illness from the coronavirus include individuals who are immunocompromised as well as people with:

  • Chronic kidney disease who are undergoing dialysis.
  • Chronic lung disease.
  • Diabetes.
  • Liver disease.
  • Moderate to severe asthma.
  • Severe obesity (body mass index of 40 or higher).

The CDC provides that many conditions can cause a person to be immunocompromised, including:

  • Bone marrow transplantation.
  • Cancer treatment.
  • Immune deficiencies.
  • Organ transplantation.
  • Poorly controlled AIDS or HIV.
  • Prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune-weakening medications.

If you believe you have a qualifying condition that may put you at higher risk for contracting COVID-19 and you would like to request an accommodation, please complete the MCAD ADA REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION REQUEST FORM and return it to human_resources@mcad.edu. Please not that accommodations to lower their risk of contracting COVID-19 for someone other than the employee are generally not required by law, but MCAD will consider these on a case by case basis.
