MCAD employees who have worked at least 1,000 hours in the 12 month period immediately preceding the leave are eligible for parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child. Parental leave provides up to 12 weeks of time off. The leave will look different if the employee is a birthing parent, or non-birthing parent.
Birthing Parent: The entire length of parental leave will be covered by FMLA. All other leaves will run concurrently to the FMLA. The first two weeks of parental leave, the employee will be paid with PFML. STD has a two week waiting period, so STD will cover pay for six weeks (week 3-8) for vaginal birth and eight weeks (week 3-10) for cesarean birth. The last two or four weeks will need to be covered by sick leave. If sick leave is unavailable, other types of leave will be used.
Non-Birthing Parent: The entire length of parental leave will be covered by FMLA. All other leaves will run concurrently to the FMLA. The first two weeks of parental leave, the employee will be paid with PFML. The rest of the leave will be covered by sick leave. If sick leave is unavailable, other types of leave will be used.
