How to install and used Splashtop Business App

How to install:

  1. Open email titled “You've been invited to join a Splashtop team”. 
    1. If you did not receive an email, you can not access Splashtop.  Contact computer_support@mcad.edu for support.
    2. Open the email, and select the “Accept the invitation from your administrator.” Hyperlink.
    3. Create an account using your MCAD gmail.
    4. Navigate to www.splashtop.com.
    5. Select the Downloads link in the top right of the screen.
    6. Download the Splashtop Business app for macOS 10.7+.
    7. Open installer, open Splashtop Business.pkg.
    8. Complete installing process.
    9. Open Splashtop Business and log into your account.  Ensure you can view existing computers to remote connect to.

How to connect to computers:

  1. Open Splashtop Business from your application folder.
  2. Select computer you wish to connect to, then select the Connect icon.
  3. Log into your account using your MCAD credentials.
    1. Logging into windows computers may ask for your password twice.  This is normal.
    2. Work on projects as needed.
    3. Log out of computer when finished.
      1. Failing to log out of computer could result in loss of work.
      2. Close Splashtop Business screen sharing window once logged out.

FAQ

Should I shut down the computers when I am finished?

  1. !!DO NOT SHUT DOWN COMPUTERS!!  This will disable the computers, and they will be inaccessible until they are physically turned on.  When you are finished working, log out of your account.

 

Why can’t I log into the Windows computers?

  1. Change your password to gain access to Windows computers.  NOTE:  THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD FOR YOUR LOGINS.  You may change your password to your original password once you change it.
    1. Navigate to password.mcad.edu.
    2. Fill out appropriate fields, then submit.  Remember your new password.
    3. Return to password.mcad.edu and change password back to original password if desired.

 

I’m an animation/film student, and I need to access the animation/film computers.  How do I know which is which?

  1. Computers beginning with 323 are film computers
  2. Computers beginning with 343 are animation computers.

 

 

The screen is too small/big/etc.  How do I fix this?

MacOSX

  1. In the Splashtop remote desktop window, go to the Apple icon on the top left of the screen.
  2.  Select to System Preferences.
  3. Select Display.
  4. Select Scaled from the Resolution options.  Choose desired resolution.

Windows

  1. Right-click on the desktop, go to Display Settings.
  2. Select desired resolution from Resolution dropdown.

 

How can I reduce lag while I am working?

  1. Reduce quality on slow network
    1. In Splashtop, go to the Preferences.
    2. Enable ‘Reduce display quality when network is slow’
    3. Lower resolution of desktop (see steps above).
    4. Use the windows computers.  They use NVIDIA screen sharing, which reducing lag.
    5. Use a different network.

 

When using certain applications, the cursor seems offset from where it’s actually selecting.  How do I fix this?

  1. Enable the original desktops cursor.
    1. In Splashtop, go to the Preferences.
    2. Enable ‘Show remote cursor’.
