Laborers: A Docupoetic Collaboration
Leslie Grant (Media Arts and Foundations) and Kathryn Savage (Liberal Arts and Foundations) are docupoetic project collaborators (a style of writing that brings together photos, research, and poetry), and their project is about labor. Since 2003, Grant photographs people at work—the moment of labor, on break, eating lunch. Savage’s nonfiction writing centers on public health topics. In the summer of 2026, Grant and Savage began a collaboration about labor within the context of birthing people and the medical professionals who assist them. Grant and Savage’s talk will include a conceptual overview of their work and research to date, with practical advice for students who wish to collaborate across distinct artistic mediums and make art that incorporates primary sources.
