Garbage and Hazardous Waste

Hello all,

With the summer coming up quick we’d like to take a moment to ensure all materials are disposed of correctly! Below are a few important reminders to keep our community safe and sustainable:

Electronic Waste

Old or frayed cords and broken electronics must be recycled properly. Please place them in the designated e-waste bin located at 142 Studio hallway.

Sharps and Blades

To protect staff from accidental injuries, sharps and blades must not be placed in regular trash.

  • Dispose of glass in Room 118  - Framing Studio.
  • Dispose of used blades and sharps in the designated container at each studio sink.
  • Any blades or sharps that have come into contact with blood must be discarded in biohazard waste containers located in restrooms throughout campus.
Hazardous Waste

Items like paints, solvents (e.g., Gamsol), adhesives, resins, mineral spirits, and cleaners must be sorted into hazardous or non-hazardous waste.

  • Please use the disposal bins in the main campus areas and in the tool room in the basement of the MFA building.
  • For any unlabeled chemical containers, write the full name of the product clearly and specifically (e.g., “Apple Barrel – Purple Iris,” not just “paint”).
Trash, Recycling, and Compost

Please be sure to use the correct receptacle for garbage and recycling. On May 8 we will have extra trash cans and recycling bins to help with moveout, please take advantage of these.

Free Shelf

Please do not leave any items on the freeshelf during move out. Anything from your studio, dorm, or apartment needs to be thrown away or disposed of elsewhere.

Thanks for helping keep MCAD safe and sustainable.
