Event Title: Understanding US Work Culture & the Recruitment Process for International Students

Organization: Global Minnesota, in collaboration with UMN International Careers

Date and Time: Wednesday, October 23rd 2024, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Central

About: The webinar will focus on providing advice for international students to navigate cultural barriers during the recruitment process for an internship or job in the US while they study here.

Experts will share tips on good practices for the application and interview process, how to better prepare for screening calls, video and in-person interviews, and how to navigate the US work culture. 

Panelists include an experienced Recruiter/HR professional, a Culture Competence Development and DE&I author and speaker, and a Linguistics expert who is a Public Speech, Presentation, and Interview Training Coach.

PAID INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Position Title: Educational internship

Organization: North House Folk School

Status: Full time student 10 Month period

About: North House Folk School is a unique educational nonprofit committed to enriching lives and building community through the teaching of traditional northern crafts in a student-centered learning environment that inspires the hands, the heart and the mind. The intern program has had four participants for a number of years, and we are considering adding a fifth position to the program in the near future. The program will run from January 15, 2025 to November 23, 2025; a duration of 10 months. Seven vacation days available depending on the program schedule. Four days of professional development or field time are available.

The internship program offers:
  • $725/month paid living stipend.
  • $3500 course credit for tuition/materials for selected courses taken as a student
  • Up to $500 for capstone project expenses
  • Housing in downtown Grand Marais, across the street from the harbor-side campus with other interns (shared living space, private bedrooms). Includes utilities and internet. 
  • Development of traditional craft skills, teaching experience, public engagement and nonprofit administrative skills. Connection to an extensive community of educators and craftspeople.

Internship Overview

Penguin Random House offers a 10-week PAID, REMOTE internship opportunity available in our adult, children’s, and corporate divisions. Interns are exposed to the publishing process and our business through panels, networking events, and employee speaker series!

Summer interns work for 28 hours per week and are paid $21/hour.

What you study does not matter!  We are looking for your desire to work with books, your drive to learn and your curiosity for the publishing industry.

Program Dates: June 9th, 2025 – August 18th, 2025

REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY
  • Must be ready to work full-time on or before June 2026 (You do not need to be enrolled in college or have a degree to apply to our internship program).
  • Able to work 28 hours/week throughout the program
  • Available and commit to the program working June 9, 2025 – August 18, 2025
  • Must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship program
  • Must be over the age of 18
