Dear MCAD Faculty and Staff,
We are writing to inform you that a planned electrical outage impacting MCAD’s Data Center will occur on Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21, 2026.
As part of this work, the Data Center will be fully powered down for approximately 1.5 days. While building power, lighting, and HVAC will remain operational, most technology services across campus will be unavailable during this time. We anticipate services will be fully restored by Friday, May 22.
What to Expect
The following services will not be available on campus:
- Internet and wireless network access
- Printing services
- Access to shared drives and file directories not housed in Google
- Locally hosted systems and applications
The following services will be unavailable both on and off campus:
- my.mcad.edu
- myaid.mcad.edu
- Web checkout
- WCOnline
- Papercut
- Classroom and coursework file shares
- Other locally hosted platforms
The following services will remain available off campus only:
- Email (Google)
- Google Drive and related tools
- Google Meet / Chat
- Zoom
- Salesforce
- Other web-based applications
Please note: these services will not be accessible from campus during the outage due to the loss of network connectivity.
Campus Operations
Due to the significant impact on technology services:
- No events will take place on campus on May 20–21
- Campus activities that rely on technology will be limited or paused
Work During the Outage
Working on campus will be very limited during this time. Employees should connect with their supervisors to determine appropriate plans. Options may include:
- Working remotely, where responsibilities can be performed using off-campus access to cloud-based tools.
- Completing offline work on campus.
- Using the time to organize or clean workspaces (additional disposal and recycling resources will be available).
We appreciate your flexibility as we complete this work to support the long-term reliability of MCAD’s systems. A reminder and any additional information will be shared closer to the planned outage.
If you have questions, please reach out to your supervisor.
Best,
Nick
