Upcoming MFA Program Relocation & Studio Updates

Dear MCAD Students,

I’m writing to share an important update about the relocation of our Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program from a rented building to main campus, along with some initial details about how this transition allows us to rethink and update studio spaces, facilities, and planning for the coming year.

This relocation is part of a broader institutional effort to balance program needs with financial sustainability and campus operations. The MFA move creates opportunities: closer proximity to shared facilities, stronger integration with the broader MCAD community, and long-term investment in updated studio infrastructure.

Relocation Details

Our MFA program will be relocating from its current home at 2201 First Avenue South, into the MCAD main building. The new MFA studios will be located in Studio 142.

We are currently working with Cuningham Group Architects on the design of these new MFA studio spaces. Updated plans and visual materials will be shared as soon as they are available.

To accommodate the MFA relocation:

  • Painting and Drawing studios currently in 142 will move to Studio 225.
  • Design studios currently in 225 will move to Studio 224.

Cuningham Group is also working on the design of these spaces. The directors and chairs of these programs have been involved in the planning, and we are working to ensure a smooth transition for all students.

We know this is a significant change, but are excited about the benefits of having our programs on one campus. Our goal is to approach it with transparency, care, and a commitment to maintaining a strong, supportive educational environment. More updates will follow soon, particularly as studio designs develop.

Best,
Melissa Rands
