General Election at MCAD
On Tuesday, November 5, MCAD will serve as the polling place for Ward 10-Precinct 9’s general election, starting at 7:00 a.m. and running until the work of the election judges is completed (usually by 10:00 p.m.). Polling will take place in the College Center.
Because MCAD is a polling place, we must adhere to Minnesota state statutes regarding activities at polling locations. No one can enter the Main Building or be within 100 feet of the Main Building who is displaying, wearing, or vocalizing any political/campaign materials that relate to a political party, candidate, or question being addressed on the ballot. Please do not wear T-shirts, hats, buttons, etc. that endorse a specific candidate or political party. Violation of these laws is a gross misdemeanor offense, which is punishable with a fine up to $3,000.
We also ask that everyone be mindful of noise in the College Center to avoid any distractions to voters and election judges.
Parking on Election Day
Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) will be opening the 3rd level of their parking ramp for free on Election Day to help accommodate all of the election traffic. We would like to encourage anyone who typically parks in MCAD Lot C to park in the Mia ramp on Tuesday to provide space for voters in Lot C. We appreciate your support in making the voting process run as smoothly as possible for our surrounding community.
Please note traffic around campus and the parking lots may be busier than usual, so plan for extra travel time if you will be on campus.
Voting on Election Day
On Election Day, you need to vote at your assigned polling place based on the precinct where you live. You can vote at MCAD only if you live within Minneapolis Ward 10, Precinct 9. All polling places are open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Use the Polling Place Finder to find your polling place.
If you live in campus housing, MCAD is your polling location.
Election Day Registration
Use the Voter Registration Lookup to determine if you are registered under your current name and address.
In Minnesota, you can register at your polling place on Election Day. This includes registering when you go to vote if you are voting early. The list of documents voters can show as proof of residence has been expanded.
