Support for Our African-American Students Amid Recent Hateful Messages

Dear MCAD Community,

I am writing to address a deeply troubling issue that has surfaced across college campuses nationwide. Recently, there have been reports of hateful and demeaning text messages sent to African-American students. These messages are not only reprehensible, but completely antithetical to the values we uphold at MCAD.

We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members of our MCAD community. These hateful messages violate the very foundation of our community standards, and we unequivocally support our African-American students during this time.

We are not aware of any MCAD students receiving such messages at this time. However if you receive a message of this nature, we ask you to reach out immediately to Student Affairs at student_affairs@mcad.edu. We are coordinating with Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office to ensure these incidents are addressed properly and to hold those individuals or groups responsible for distributing such hate speech.

An attack on one member of our community is an attack on all of us. We stand united in rejecting hate in all its forms and reaffirming that the diversity within MCAD is one of our greatest strengths.

Thank you for standing together to uphold the values we cherish.

With respect and solidarity,
Sanjit
