Dear MCAD Community,
At MCAD, our mission is to educate individuals to become professional artists and designers, cultivate creative leadership, and engage with diverse communities. It’s at the heart of everything we do. As we navigate changes under a new administration, I want to reaffirm our steadfast dedication to the values that define our institution: creativity, equity, inclusivity, and respect for all.
Our community thrives on the strength of its diversity. In particular, we stand in solidarity with our BIPOC,LGBTQ+, and transgender community members, reaffirming their rightful place as valued and integral contributors to the vibrant tapestry of MCAD. We remain committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to express their true selves.
This moment calls for unity and courage, reminding me of the Zulu phrase "Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu"—“a person is a person because of people.” This essential principle is the tie that binds us together. It is through our collective care, mutual respect, and shared humanity that we will continue to nurture the inclusive and dynamic culture that makes MCAD exceptional.
Our mission calls us to not only create, but also lead—building bridges across differences and championing equity in all its forms. Over the coming days, our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) Committee will share a detailed email outlining resources designed to support our community in these efforts. I encourage each of you to use these opportunities, as your voice and actions are vital to advancing this work.
Thank you for your creativity, resilience, and commitment to making MCAD a place where everyone can thrive. Together, we continue to embody the values of this extraordinary institution.
With gratitude and resolve,
Sanjit
