Safety Bulletin - Robbery, 5/28/25

MCAD Campus Safety was just alerted to a Robbery that had occurred today (05/28/25) near the MIA parking ramp at the corner of 3rd Ave S and 25th St. E. shortly before 3:00 p.m..  A female in her 60’s was walking when approached by a heavier-set dark-skinned male, likely in his mid- to late-20’s, when he grabbed the bag she was carrying and pulled it away from her, tossing the bag to a nearby male, and then took off running towards Clinton Ave where he was seen getting into a dark blue Volvo at the corner of 26th St. E and Clinton Ave.  The second male also left the scene in a similar direction.

Minneapolis Police and Mia Security were notified of the incident and responded to the scene to assist the female.

The first male is described as being between 5’8”-5’10” and wearing a white hoodie, dark jogging pants, a teal N-95 mask and possibly crocs on his feet.

No definitive description of the second male, other than being called a ‘kid’ was observed by by-standers.

The dark blue Volvo possibly has the letters ‘SDK’ in the plate.

Personal Safety Tips

By taking a few simple precautions, you can reduce the risk to yourself and also discourage those who commit crimes.

  • Be alert to your surroundings and the people around you—especially if you are alone or it is dark.
  • Whenever possible, travel with a friend.  Campus Safety is available to offer escorts to/from your vehicle if it is within our Escort boundaries.  You can contact Campus Safety via their non-emergency line at (612)-874-3801.
  • Stay in well-lighted areas as much as possible.
  • Walk close to the curb. Avoid doorways, bushes and alleys where someone could hide.
  • Walk confidently at a steady pace.
  • Make eye contact with people when walking.
  • Do not respond to conversation from strangers on the street—continue walking.
  • If you carry a purse, carry it securely between your arm and your body. Although a purse-snatcher's intent is to steal the purse, your personal safety may depend on not clinging to it.
  • Do not use or wear anything that will impede your vision or hearing (i.e. iPods).

While this incident did not occur on-campus, it did happen within our identified reporting geography. This message is intended to promote safety on campus and comply, in part, with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act.

If you have any information about this crime, please reach out to the Minneapolis Police Department at 612-673-5705.
