Dear MCAD Community,
We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus on February 16, and are eager to be together again as a community. We’re planning to serve coffee and treats for students that first day back; stay tuned for details.
As we resume in-person campus life, we continue to monitor federal immigration enforcement activity in our community. We understand that many of you have questions and concerns about how this activity may affect our students, faculty, staff, and campus operations.
The information below has been previously shared with you. To reiterate:
Focus on Safety
All MCAD buildings and residences are locked 24/7; only those with proper IDs can enter.
Any visitor to MCAD must be granted access to the building and stop by the Welcome Desk to check in.
To Do: Make sure to not let others into any building unless you know them.
To Do: Watch out for one another. Travel in groups. Check in with others. Trust your instincts and avoid unsafe areas.
Encountering Federal Agents on Campus
MCAD does not enforce federal immigration laws, nor can they impede upon legal federal actions. MCAD will only comply with signed judicial warrants and the specificities outlined in the warrant. MCAD will not offer any information that is not legally requested.
MCAD does not issue campus-wide emergency communications solely in response to federal law enforcement activity on campus, unless there is an immediate and confirmed threat to the safety of others.
To Do: If you are approached by federal agents, either in public spaces on campus, at a MCAD residence, or any MCAD buildings, do not speak to them or engage with them, but contact Campus Safety immediately at 612-874-3801.
To Do: If approached by federal agents, you are not required to provide them any information. Contact Campus Safety.
Academic Information
MCAD classes are fully remote through next week. On Monday, February 16 classes return to in-person instruction. (If you have safety concerns about returning to campus, please contact Student Affairs.)
We remain committed to responding thoughtfully, transparently, and in alignment with our values as we navigate this moment together, and will provide updates as needed. Thank you for your commitment to MCAD, and to our community.
Stay strong, MCAD!
Regards,
Gwen
