Office Safety

Office Safety addresses common hazards in office and administrative environments, including workstation setup, ergonomics, housekeeping, and general awareness of surroundings.

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace free of hazards

  • Set up workstations to support neutral, comfortable working positions

  • Take breaks and vary tasks to reduce strain

  • Report unsafe conditions or equipment issues promptly

Workspace Setup (Ergonomics)

  • Adjust your chair so feet are flat on the floor and knees are at or slightly below hip level

  • Position your monitor at eye level and about an arm’s length away

  • Keep your keyboard and mouse at a height that allows your wrists to remain neutral

  • Sit with your back supported by the chair

Work Habits

  • Take short breaks to stand, stretch, and move throughout the day

  • Avoid staying in the same position for long periods

  • Alternate tasks when possible

General Safety

  • Keep cords, bags, and materials out of walkways

  • Use step stools or ladders instead of chairs to reach items

  • Keep frequently used items within easy reach

Tip
Discomfort is an early warning sign—adjust your workstation or request assistance before it becomes an injury.

Biggest Risks to Avoid

  • Poor workstation setup leading to strain or discomfort

  • Sitting for long periods without movement

  • Reaching or twisting repeatedly due to poor layout

  • Cluttered workspaces creating trip hazards

  • Using chairs or furniture improperly for access
