Safe Lifting provides guidance on how to move materials safely to prevent strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal injuries.

Key Expectations

  • Use proper lifting techniques as defined below

  • Avoid lifting loads that are too heavy or awkward

  • Ask for help or use mechanical assistance when needed

What You Need to Do

  • Test the weight of the load before lifting

  • Lift with your legs, not your back

  • Keep the load close to your body

  • Avoid twisting while carrying

  • Use carts or equipment when available

  • Request assistance when you are unable to lift independently

Biggest Risks to Avoid

  • Lifting too much weight alone

  • Twisting while lifting or carrying

  • Lifting from awkward heights or positions

  • Repetitive lifting without breaks
