SAFETY BULLETIN: Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 7:10 a.m., MCAD Campus Safety received a report of an attempted motor vehicle theft from a campus parking lot. The vehicle, a Kia Soul, had sustained damage to a rear passenger-side window and steering column.

Based on a review of available video footage, two individuals approached the vehicle at approximately 8:21 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. Both individuals appeared to be wearing hooded sweatshirts with their hoods up and masks covering their faces. One individual entered the vehicle after the rear passenger-side window was broken. The second individual then entered the vehicle, and both individuals were observed inside the vehicle for approximately one minute before exiting the vehicle and leaving the area.

The vehicle was not taken. The owner reported that anti-theft software had been installed on the vehicle, which may have prevented the vehicle from being started.

The vehicle owner has contacted the Minneapolis Police Department to report the incident. Anyone who may have observed suspicious activity in the area or has information about the individuals involved is encouraged to contact Campus Safety.
