We have fielded a number of inquiries and concerns at the Helpdesk in regard to the software update for Team Dynamix, and the service pop up we had sent an email about yesterday, Monday, Sept. 21st.
Team Dynamix ITAM, (ITAM stands for Information Technology Asset Management) is the new product name of a longstanding software management tool. This product was formerly known as Sassafras KeyAccess. This tool allows MCAD to provide software licensing management to computers in our environment as well as allowing our team to monitor the hardware connected to that environment, reducing threats from outside actors and helps us remotely troubleshoot certain issues on these devices. This application is a part of our base build that all students utilize.
If prompted to allow a new "Security Endpoint Extension" for Team Dynamix, we would ask that you do this as it will allow the software to work properly in our environment.
We're sorry if this automatic update caused any alarm, but please be assured that this was a simple upgrade to a software tool that has been on your computer since you received it from MCAD. It does not interfere with any of the normal functions of your laptop's software or hardware nor does it contain any generative AI features. The technology team at MCAD has been using this software for nearly 20 years, and we have never seen an issue where this application unintentionally impacted hardware or software functionality.
If you would like to hide the new menu bar icon for TeamDynamix, please go to the Menu Bar options in System Settings and simply uncheck the box for the application in the "Allow in the Menu Bar" section:
