What Do You Preach?

On  Saturday, October 25  at 7:00 p.m. the Black Artist Union is hosting Preach!

An open mic for poetry, speech, performance and comedy. Open to all students.

We're exploring the question: How do we Practice Reconciliation, Anger, Entertainment, Community, and Hope in a way that resists violence?

“Folks you’d better stop and think [...]
For we’re headed for the brink
What's gonna happen now? In all of our cities?
My people are rising; they're living in lies”

“Will the murders never cease [...]
Will my country fall, stand or fall? Is it too late for us all?
And did Martin Luther King just die in vain?”

Preach! is inspired by The King of Love Is Dead 1968, performed by Nina Simone 3 days after the death of Martin Luther King. While King’s peaceful and religious approach for community is often contested, The King of Love Is Dead sings about the balance Peace and Faith brought to tumultuous times in her community.
