The MCAD Technology Help Desk has become aware of several issues related to the release of updated tablet drivers for Cintiq and Intuos devices.
There are two main problems with the driver:
- Some users are reporting their computer locking up or refusing to recognize trackpad or keyboard inputs. This can be resolved by forcing a shutdown by holding down the power button for approximately 10 seconds and then restarting the machine. We have yet to hear if this problem recurrs, but if it does, we would recommend removing the Wacom drivers and re-installing them.
- The new Wacom Tablet Drivers remove support for a number of older Wacom devices. Crucially, this impacts a number of Wacom tablets available in through the Media Center and installed in a few public lab locations.
At this time we STRONGLY recommend against updating to the latest Wacom tablet drivers if you know you have an impacted device or intend to use a tablet or Cintiq from the Media Center. Information on which tablets are no longer supported can be found in the release notes for the newest version of the driver package on Wacom's site: https://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/professional/releasen...
Please note that if you had previously installed the Wacom Tablet Drivers through the Self Service.app in your Applications directory that you may have already received the updated drivers. We have stopped the Self Service.app from deploying new installations of the drivers for the time being, but if you are impacted by either of the issues above you may need to uninstall the Wacom Tablet Driver and reinstall an older version.
