Hello from the MCAD Technology Help Desk,
With the release of Apple's new operating system earlier this week, we have found that Apple no longer supports AFP (Apple File Protocol), which is the primary network server connection protocol that we use for macOS computers on campus.
While we are looking for alternatives, we STRONGLY urge all macOS users that need to use any of MCAD's file servers (Class, Studio, Service Bureau, etc.) to not upgrade to macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Most student, faculty, and staff laptops that have been issued by MCAD will automatically defer this upgrade for 90 days, but we have seen a few instances where this update has been applied to machines despite this restriction. If prompted to update, please decline for now.
Anyone who has already accepted the update to macOS 27 can still access the various servers on campus by using an SFTP client such as FileZilla to access the servers via the instructions we have listed in our WIndows Server article. You can also stop in to the Help Desk office in main 319 for direct support during normal office hours.
