“As I go further into the backstory of my work, I feel that it is all about the strength to cross a middle passage, to endure centuries of slavery, and find some place to exist that is not just on the physical plane. I’m trying to find that world inside my painting.” —Peter Williams

Mary Moulton Cheney Artist, Designer, Educator

Exhibition:
Friday, July 18Friday, September 5

Mary Moulton Cheney started what became the Design Division of the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts (our MCAD, today) in 1899, and went on to become the School’s first female director (equivalent to the president today). She was an advocate for the Arts and Crafts movement, and her work was influenced especially by the Glasgow School (Charles Rennie Mackintosh, et al). She also had her own press and produced what we would today call artists’ books.

The work from this exhibit is from the MCAD Archives and was organized by Allan Kohl

Safety Bulletin--Vehicle Break-Ins

Between 7/14/25 and 7/16/25, MCAD Campus Safety was alerted to multiple vehicles near or on campus having windows broken out on them.  The morning of 7/15/25, 13 cars in the temporary MFA lot were found with damage.  At this time, none of the vehicles involved appear to be affiliated with our MFA program.
