How do I print a black and white document to a public printer?

Begin by opening the file you want to print.

Choose File > Print and the Print dialog box will open.

If you just need simple letter-sized (8.5x11") prints, you can choose from several public BW printers around campus:

  • SB-BW-Letter
  • Library-Canonir3235i
  • 3rdFloorMain-Canonir3235i (located on the 3rd floor in the main building near the South elevator)
  • SrDesign-HP-BW (for students with a studio space in the Senior Design studio area)
  • L106-HP2430-LC (Learning Center)

[NOTE: to set up duplex/double-sided printing, see this article.]

If you need to print 11x17 in black and white (make sure you've changed your Page Setup to 11x17 or Tabloid) you need to pick one of these printers:

  • SB-BW-11x17
  • Library-Canonir3235i
  • 3rdFloorMain-Canonir3235i
  • SrDesign-HP-BW (for students with a studio space in the Senior Design studio area)

[NOTE: to set up duplex/double-sided printing, see this article.]

If you want to print in black and white on your own paper you need to pick this printer:

  • SB-BW-Manual-Feed ($0.02/page on your paper) Letter, 11x17, 12x18

[NOTE: to set up duplex/double-sided printing, see this article.]

If you want to print in black and white on any of the Service Bureau's color paper options, you need to pick one of these printers:

  • SB-BW-Color-Paper ($0.06/page)
  • SB-BW-HiVol-Copier-cn5075-Color-Paper ($0.06/page)

[NOTE: to set up duplex/double-sided printing, see this article.]

If you want to print a high volume of pages in black and white or make use of advanced finishing options (stapling, sorting, folding, booklet, etc.) you need to pick this printer:

  • SB-BW-HiVol-Copier-cn5075 (check with SB staff or see this article for setup info)

[NOTE: to set up duplex/double-sided printing, see this article.]

Once your file has been sent you will need to log in to either a public release station (SB, Lib, LC, Sr Design) or your personal printing account at print.mcad.edu.

  • Public Release Station: log in with your MCAD login info (same as your email), find your file, and click on the 'print' button
  • Personal PaperCut Account: log in to print.mcad.edu with your MCAD login info (same as your email), click on the Jobs Pending Release tab, find your file, and click on the 'print' button

REMEMBER: when you release a print job it will be charged back to your printing account!

As always, if you have further questions or need clarification on anything print-related, check out our other KB articles HERE, or stop by the SB in person.
