If you are working with a non-reproducing color for rough layouts (or gridlines) then you'll want to check out this tutorial from comic artist Tony Cliff. He outlines how to scan in pencil artwork with a non-photo color and then dropping it out (a typical process for comic artists).
Here are some general recommendations to use when scanning (unless your teacher has explained how and why you should use different settings).
Color Images: Scan at 300dpi in 24-bit Color mode
Batch scanning is best done in the Service Bureau or Library using the Epson v700.
The Epson v700 is a small format flatbed scanner that can scan slides and film using scanning trays available from the Service Bureau (or Library) desk.
