Student Laptop Warranty (AppleCare and Applecare+)

When you receive a MacBook Pro as a new student through the MCAD Laptop Initiative, you own it just as if you bought it from the Apple Store, and by default, comes with a 1 year limited warranty. You can find the full text of this warranty here. This warranty covers parts failure but not accidental damage. This means that Apple will repair the computer at no cost if it spontaneously stops working or has an issue you didn't cause, but you'll have to pay for the repair if you drop it, spill something on it, etc.

In the first month or so after you receive your laptop (within 60 days of its purchase by MCAD), you may purchase the 3-year extended warranty, which is called AppleCare+. Applecare+ covers parts failure for 3 years after your date of purchase. Unlike the default warranty, AppleCare+ also covers up to 2 instances of accidental damage, with a fee of $99 for display/external enclosure damage or $299 for other accidental damage. It does not cover loss or theft; for this, consider adding it to your insurance. This is optional, but we recommend it to protect your investment. The extended warranty isn't available after this window ends. Look for information about a student discount price for AppleCare+, and please call Apple Support at 800-275-2273 if you have additional questions.

You’ll be asked for the serial number of your laptop, which can be found on the bottom of your laptop or by going to the Apple menu in the upper left corner > About This Mac. They will ask if you have an Apple ID. It’s okay if you don’t. You may also be asked for the purchase date of your laptop. Let them know the date you received it and that you got it through your college. If you have any trouble verifying your purchase date, please reach out to helpdesk@mcad.edu.
