Dear MCAD Community,
Happy New Year! I am writing to inform you about an exciting transition within our department. Online Teaching and Learning (OTL) will now be known as Teaching and Learning Excellence (TLE). This name change comes organically, as an acknowledgement of the work that Online Teaching and Learning has been achieving since the COVID pandemic in providing pedagogical and technical support for faculty and students regardless of class modality.
This natural evolution represents the college’s commitment to supporting inclusivity, innovation, and excellence in advancing arts and design education.
We are dedicated to maintaining our support of Online and Hyflex courses, while building new resources that are responsive to the evolving needs of faculty and students throughout the college.
In the meantime, we are sharing some core ideas of Excellence that inform our work in elevating education at MCAD:
Strengthen Arts and Design education through the application of High Impact Learning Practices, Instructional Design, instructional and emerging technologies
Reinforce Kindness in Education by foregrounding Pedagogy of Care guided by Social Emotional learning, neurodevelopmental and trauma informed instruction
Foster connectedness and a sense of belonging by supporting program/faculty led and student led communities of learners - for building upon capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative inquiry.
Build collective capacity and establish partners across the college to think of novel ways to approach student success, wellbeing, and retention.
Together, we co-create the culture of Excellence at MCAD. In this spirit I invite you to drop us a line, share your thoughts and ideas for how we could enhance teaching and learning at MCAD. You can reach Teaching and Learning Excellence at our new email, tale@mcad.edu or at our old email, online@mcad.edu.
Sincerely,
Khendum Gyabak, Ph.D.
